UK - Citizens' Digital Participation report from Ofcom
Highlights of the report include: the internet is an important channel for citizen participation; the internet makes citizen participation easier; those living in areas of multiple deprivation generally engage less in citizen participation activities compared to the general population.

UK - Database State Report released
The report assesses 46 databases across the major UK government departments and finds a quarter of the public-sector databases reviewed are illegal, fewer than 15% are effective, the benefits claimed for data sharing are often illusory and more than half have significant problems with privacy.

US - Barack Obama's Community Town Hall
The White House has run a trial asking for questions from citizens about anything. The Whitehouse invited US citizens to participate in a community-moderated online town hall. People could submit their own question about the economy and vote on submissions from others.

US - Data.gov website now live
The site provides descriptions of US Federal data sets using an adaptation of Dublin Core metadata, information about how to access the data sets and tools (widgets and data mining and extraction tools, applications and other services) to leverage them. The US government is encouraging citizens to suggest data sets they would like to see, rate and comment on existing data sets, and suggest improvements for the site.
