Consumer Affairs Victoria on Facebook

You can now interact with Consumer Affairs Victoria on Facebook. The consumer affairs regulator made its first post through the social media giant on 18 July.

This is CAV's second venture into social media. The CAV Twitter account has been active for just over a year and is approaching 1000 followers.

Setting up a Facebook account fits well with the organisation's role of helping Victorians be responsible and informed businesses and consumers. It also helps fulfil the Government's vision for Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV):

"To make better use of electronic communications (including text messaging and the Internet) to raise consumer awareness of relevant issues."

CAV's Marketing and Education branch manages the organisation's social media activities. To formulate their Facebook strategy, they referenced several eGovernment resources, including the Government 2.0 Action Plan.

In the first stage of the roll-out, CAV will use Facebook for:

  • posting updates about CAV and its services
  • directing users to its website
  • linking consumers to websites that provides valuable information
  • networking with other government organisations
  • sharing relevant stories from the media
  • addressing general questions and directing people to our enquiries channels.

In the future CAV may also use Facebook for:

  • uploading photos and video
  • inviting people to events such as information sessions
  • engaging with users
  • hosting discussion boards and online polls for feedback
  • location-based marketing using Facebook places.

Please help raise awareness of consumer affairs issues throughout Victoria by 'liking' the CAV page.
