Agencies will ensure that web domains comply with the Domain Requirements below.
1. All Victorian Government websites must have a vic.gov.au domain name. (1)
2. All new domain names must be considered and approved by the agency's Website Management Taskforce before implementation and use.
3. Domain names must be user‐tested for suitability before submission to the relevant Website Management Taskforce.
4. vic.gov.au domain names must be consistent with the Commonwealth Government's domain name policies.
5. All domain names must have accurate technical and administrative contact details in their respective domain name registry entries.
A domain name is a unique name used to identify a resource, e.g. a website. Readable, contextual domain names reinforce the intent of the resource and provide users with a useful mnemonic for continued use.
Managed domain name allocation ensures a consistent, best‐practice approach to resource naming and that users can readily identify when they are interacting with a genuine Victorian Government resource.
To assist citizens in finding and accessing Victorian Government resources.
Citizens can enjoy a consistent and high quality user experience and complete desired tasks.
All departments and four inner budget agencies (Vic Roads, Victoria Police, Environmental Protection Authority and State Revenue Office) and CenITex.
All internet sites including channels, portals and subdomains.Website Management Taskforces, website managers, developers and/or anyone responsible for the management of a website.

Domain name registry - A domain name registry is a database of all domain names registered in a top‐level domain. (2)
Top-Level domain - A top level domain is the highest level domain in the domain name hierarchy. Within a fully formed domain name, top level domains form the final part of the name, for example in www.dtf.vic.gov.au 'au' is the top level domain.
