Information Architecture Overview Presentation

The Information Architecture Plan (IA Plan) is first and foremost a management tool for web managers and the Website Management Taskforce. It is intended to assist web managers to capture information about their website information architecture and to use this information to plan, manage and further develop their websites in line with audience needs.

The IA Plan identifies the major components of the information architecture design, management, maintenance and review process. It also provides the opportunity to highlight areas that require further analysis or improvement and document anticipated actions.

Why have an Information Architecture Presentation as well?

Communicating the scope, complexity and significance of a website’s information architecture may be required in a number of instances.

These could include:

  • Reporting to internal or external groups about aspects of the website operation and performance
  • Requesting resourcing for particular initiatives such as website re-development, additional staff or the development of new skills
  • Highlighting innovative practice, design or functionality
  • Presenting a case for a change in practice e.g. increasing usability testing
  • Briefing contractors prior to the commencement of a new piece of work
  • Maintaining a visual record of the changes and developments in the website
  • Inducting new staff to the business unit or web team

This powerpoint presentation aims to assist business owners and/or web managers communicate the purpose, scope and management of their website information architecture.

It reflects the key elements of the IA Plan and provides web managers with the opportunity to expand on particularly sections adding more detail or examples.

Maintaining and updating this presentation means that responding to a communication request is easily accomplished. It also provides a useful record of the changes in the website over time.

The powerpoint presentation format allows web managers to restructure and customise the slides to meet particular audience needs and presentation topics.

These audiences could include:

  • Web Management Taskforce
  • Department or Agency business units
