Information Architecture Development Model
An Information Architecture Development Model has been prepared to assist web managers to understand the relationship between the IA Plan and the process of information architecture design, website development and renewal.
The Information Architecture Development Model provides a comprehensive view of the development process and interdependencies. It places the IA Plan within the context of parallel development activities and aligns the outcomes of the model with the key components of the plan.
The Model provides a detailed description of the parallel stages, activities, technology interdependencies and outcomes that operate in the design, build, management, review and improvement of a website’s information architecture.
The model can be used in a number of ways including to:
- Clarify the stages required in the information architecture process for the development of a new website
- Clarify the stages required in the information architecture process for the re-development of an existing website
- Identify key activities that need to be undertaken by the web team or external contractors
- Assist web managers to identify and match resource needs to internal and external resources and skill sets
- Enable web managers to understand the business and technology issues in the design and management of an information architecture
- Identify the necessary outcomes and documentation that contribute to the design and management of a site’s information architecture
- Communicate the scope and processes required for the development of an information architecture to senior personnel
- Communicate the scope and processes required for the development of an information architecture to external contractors
