Developing a social media strategy is more than just opening a Twitter or Facebook account. Like any strategy, you need to understand how it aligns with your business objectives and what outcomes you want to achieve.
Additionally, you need to understand your audience and have a planned approach to implementation. Once you connect with your audience, how do you evaluate whether you are achieving your objectives.
Kathy Phelan from Small World Social Media will lead this hands on workshop. Focusing on the public sector, it will cover all aspects of building a social media strategy - from concept development to evaluation, and also what to do when things go wrong.
The workshop assumes little knowledge of social media and will use practical case studies. A comprehensive list of resources will be also be provided.
Small World founder Kathy Phelan is a former member of the VPS who has over ten years experience in digital media and online community building.
Kathy has advised State and Federal Governments and provided digital strategies and online services to publicly listed international and Australian companies. Kathy has a particular interest in social media and its application to government.
Over the last year Kathy and the Small World Social team have created over 50 social media campaigns that have reached over a million Australians. Clients have included Sydney Opera House, Australian Ballet, State Library of NSW, NSW Department of Community Services and Victorian Ambulance Service.
