- The new "Data.gov in a box" could empower countries to build their own platforms, by Alex Howard. O'Reilly Radar, 5 December 2011. "As 2011 comes to an end, there are 28 international open data platforms in the open government community. By the end of 2012, code from new "Data.gov-in-a-box" may help many more countries to stand up their own platforms. - India's reported plans to ask Internet companies to filter objectionable content may overstep the country's own laws, according to legal experts, By John Ribeiro - Bangalore. "Last week, President Obama's unprecedented efforts to advance open and transparent Government reached an important milestone. As part of a joint effort by the United States and India to build an open government platform, the U.S. team has deposited open source code – an important benchmark in developing the Open Government Platform that will enable governments around the world to stand up their own open government data sites.
Last week’s announcement is part of a broader effort to make government more transparent, participatory, and collaborative. In September, the United States was one of eight founding governments of the Open Government Partnership,a new multilateral initiative that secures concrete commitments from governments to promote transparency, empower citizens, fight corruption, and harness new technologies to strengthen governance.The President also unveiled the U.S. National Action Plan on Open Government, which detailed steps the United States will take to help meet the initiative's goals..."
- Indian government to roll out nationwide fibre network; BSNL to implement: Minister
- India Tech Online, New Delhi, November 20, 2011. "The Indian Government will own and operate a countrywide broadband network with an optical fibre base and make it available to different operators to provide a range of services, Indian Minister of State for Communications and IT, Milind Deora announced Friday at the 8th Broadband Tech India Conference here.
"Keeping future users of this network in mind this will to be a non-discriminatory access to all types of information and services" Deora told. "This network would be the way governance will be delivered to the whole nation" reaching out to the last village, he added.
