The President of the Treasury Board has been mandated by the Prime Minister to develop a Web Renewal Action Plan. The Prime Ministers letter contains three requests: Web Renewal to significantly reduce the number of Canadian Government websites and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of web publishing; Develop and implement standards and management process for social media; and Develop and implement mobile application standards and governance processes.

Open Government - Canada
- Provided by the Government of Canada - currently as of 14 December 2011 there are three initiatives:
Open Data, which is about offering government data in a more useful format to enable citizens, the private sector and non-government organizations to leverage it in innovative and value-added ways.
Open Information, which is about proactively releasing information, including on government activities, to Canadians on an ongoing basis. By proactively making government information available it will be easier to find and more accessible for Canadians.
Open Dialogue, which is about giving Canadians a stronger say in government policies and priorities, and expanding engagement through Web 2.0 technologies.

Elections Canada drops plan for online voting due to cuts
- Paper ballots will be the only choice, but a new report reveals multiple errors with them, By Leslie MacKinnon, CBC News, April 30, 2013. "Elections Canada has abandoned plans to experiment with an online voting pilot project before the 2015 general election due to budget cuts.
Elections Canada also has concerns about the security of online voting, but a new report indicates that voting irregularities happen frequently at polling stations on voting day even when paper ballots are used.
A spokesperson for Elections Canada said Tuesday that experiments with online voting are postponed "for the long term," and the reasons for the delay are due to an eight per cent budget cut that took effect this year, translating into a loss of $7.5 million per year.
A plan to try out online voting in a federal byelection sometime before 2015 has been quashed..."
