How do I use this site?


1. Overview

The eGovernment Resource Centre is a respository of eGovernment material, organised by placing external links and site articles under a hierarchical structure of categories.

2. Search

You can search across the eGovernment Resource Centre website and have search results resturned which are either categories, external links, or site articles.

To search, type in the search box at the top of the page:

  • a word eg., kiosks, or
  • several words eg., kiosks united kingdom - this will search for kiosks and united and kingdom - these words can be found anywhere in a document, or
  • an exact phrases (in quotation marks) eg., "united kingdom" - this will search for united kingdom as a phrase in the document rather than as separate words, or kiosks "united kingdom" will search for kiosks and united kingdom.

Click on the Search button or press the 'enter' key on your keyboard, and you will see a list of search results in order of relevance to your query. The search results are returned in the order of categories, external links, and site articles.

You can also exclude words which you do not wish to be found in your search results. If you wish to search for kiosks but not kiosks in victoria - please enter + kiosks - victoria. This search string will retrieve documents containg the word kiosks but not victoria.

Search Results

Search results are presented in the order of categories, site articles and external links containing your search term(s). You have the option to display either 10, 20 or 50 records at a a time.

The default display order for external links is relevance ranking with the most relevant result displayed as the first in the list. You can then resort the links by link name, date, description, URL, rating, votes, page views, and editor's pick in either ascending or descending order.

The default display order for site articles is relevance ranking with the most relevant result displayed as the first in the list. You can then resort the articles by article name, date, description, users, rating, votes, page view and editor's pick in either ascending or descending order.

The default display order for categories is alphabetical by category name. You can then resort the articles by name, date and description in ascending or descending order.

For all search results returned, you have the ability to narrow your search further within the search results presented. For example if you want to search for health within the search results for kiosks united kingdom, type health in the search results box.

Your initial search results are further refined to those documents containing the word health.

3. My eGov

My eGov allows you to register as a member of the eGovernment Resource Centre.

Members can do the following:

  • Bookmark favourite resources on the site into the member's own repository,
  • Rate resources as to their usefulness - ratings range from excellent, very good, and good, to average, fair and poor.
  • Review resources - provide comments on the articles and links provided on the site; these links are submitted for review by the site administrator prior to them being published on the site.
  • Use the eGov Forums. The eGov Forums provide you with the facility to post and reply to posts, you can bookmark favourite posts, view your own topics, and send private messages to other members of the site. Detailed help is available along with Forum Rules

The information we ask you to provide includes:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Email address
  • State
  • Country

Any personal information you provide is collected solely for the purpose of responding to you or sending you information about the site.

4. What's New Newsletter - Mailing List Subscription

The What's New newsletter is produced on a weekly basis (except for the month of January) and emailed to subscribers. To subscribe to the mailing list, please enter your email address in the box provided on the right hand panel of the site and select the subscribe button.

Any personal information you provide is collected solely for the purpose of responding to you or sending you information about the site.

5. Email a Friend

The site provides you with a facility to recommend the site to your colleagues. To do this type an email address into the box provided in the right hand panel and select the recommend button.

6. eGovRC Toolbar

The eGovernment Resource Centre also offers the eGovRC toolbar - available for download . The toolbar offers direct links to the RSS feeds, search facilities, key manuals and tools provided on the site. It is available for Internet Explorer (v.5.0+) and Firefox (v.1.0.1+).

7. RSS News Feeds

The eGovernment Resource Centre offers its newsletter and other digests as a news feed in RSS format. There are 4 news feeds provided: the What's New weekly newsletter, the eGov Daily Digest, the eGov Engagement Digest and the Government Website Digest.
