The 10 Who Are Changing the World of Politics & the Internet in 2009 - winners of the eDemocracy Awards announced


PoliticsOnline and the World eDemocracy Forum have announced the winners of the e-Democracy Awards for 2009.

The winners are:

  • World e-Democracy Forum e-democracy award: EUProfiler
  • International e-Democracy Award: Peter D. Greenberger, manager of the political advertising for Google (USA)
  • European e-Democracy Award: the Progressive Alliance of the Socialists and Democrats to the European Parliament
  • French e-Democracy Award: Auwwwergne of the temptation.

The top 10 finalists for the 2009 e-Democracy Awards were invited as honored guests to the the World eDemocracy Forum on October 22 and 23, 2009, in Issy-les-Moulineaux (Paris, France), where they'll took part in an awards ceremony and other special programs throughout the two-day forum.

The top 10 finalists were:

  1. The Democracy Center, represented by Jim Shultz, Executive Director (Bolivia)
  2. CLIME, Center for Liberty in the Middle East, represented by founder Eleana Gordon (USA)
  3. DiploFoundation, represented by founder Jovan Kurbalija (Malta)
  4. EUProfiler, represented by project manager Alexander Trechsel (Switzerland)
  5. Peter D. Greenberger, Team Manger “Elections and Issue Advocacy”, Google Inc. (USA)
  6. The Iranian protesters (Iran)
  7. Nazaha, the Arab web portal in the fight against corruption, represented by founder Ibrahim Fahmy (Egypt)
  8. Pollitika.com, represented by founder Marko Rakar (Croatia)
  9. Joe Rospars and Obama’s New Media Team (USA)
  10. Twitter (USA)

This prestigious award seeks to recognize the innovators and pioneers - those who blaze new e-political trails everyday, the dreamers and doers who bring democracy online. But they need your help to nominate honorees. If you know of someone or something deserving recognition, send in your nomination today.

Criteria:

  • Highly effective leaders who are making outstanding e-political and e-governmental achievements
  • Forward thinking organizations that have led the way in this revolution
  • Innovative ideas or strategies that have forever changed the political process

You can visit the Politics Online website for examples of past winners. The eGovernment Resource Centre was selected in the top 10 in 2008.
