Australia - 2008 eGovernment Survey Results Released
The Australian federal government has released Australians' use and satisfaction with e-government services - 2008

The Australian Government 2.0 Taskforce is being formed against a backdrop of increased interest by governments worldwide in the potential uses of public sector information and online engagement. New Zealand Government Online Survey Results 2008
The report covers: scope and methodology of the survey; the types of government's online services used; satisfaction with government's online services divided into 3 categories (information, transactions and participation); important aspects of online services, channel usage and preferences including the reasons for not using the online channel; New Zealanders' perceptions of how government is doing on each of the three indicators for the 2010 milestone of the Networked State Services Development Goal; other results including searching for information online, newzealand.govt.nz, location of government information online, single personalised view of transactions; and promoting the online channel. Highlights of the report include: the internet is an important channel for citizen participation; the internet makes citizen participation easier; those living in areas of multiple deprivation generally engage less in citizen participation activities compared to the general population. The report assesses 46 databases across the major UK government departments and finds a quarter of the public-sector databases reviewed are illegal, fewer than 15% are effective, the benefits claimed for data sharing are often illusory and more than half have significant problems with privacy. The UK Government is taking steps to give people, communities and frontline staff the information and real power they need to personalise public services. US - Barack Obama's Community Town Hall
The White House has run a trial asking for questions from citizens about anything. The Whitehouse invited US citizens to participate in a community-moderated online town hall. People could submit their own question about the economy and vote on submissions from others. US - Citizen Engagement Initiative
The Obama Administration has set up the Office of Public Enagement (OPE). The OPE creates and coordinates opportunities for direct communication between the United States Obama Administration and the American public. US - Data.gov website now live
The site provides descriptions of US Federal data sets using an adaptation of Dublin Core metadata, information about how to access the data sets and tools (widgets and data mining and extraction tools, applications and other services) to leverage them. The US government is encouraging citizens to suggest data sets they would like to see, rate and comment on existing data sets, and suggest improvements for the site. |
