'Telework Forum: Bringing home the benefits of teleworking using the NBN' outcomes report

The Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy and the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) held a Telework Forum in Sydney on 3 August 2011 to highlight the benefits of increased working from home arrangements. The consensus among the 275 participants from industry, government and academia was that the NBN would give effect to the idea that 'work is what you do, not where you do it'.

National Digital Economy Strategy
- Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy. "The National Digital Economy Strategy (NDES) sets out a vision for Australia to realise the benefits of the National Broadband Network (NBN) and position Australia as a leading digital economy by 2020.

The National Broadband Network
- Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy. "The NBN is an Australian Government initiative and represents the largest ever infrastructure project undertaken in this country. The NBN is an Australian Government initiative which will deliver high speed broadband to all Australians. The NBN is a new, wholesale only, open access high speed broadband network. The NBN will involve the laying of fibre optic cabling to at least 90 per cent of Australian homes, schools and businesses, capable of delivering speeds of 100 megabits per second, or up to 100 times faster than many people experience today. The remaining premises will be connected via a combination of next generation high speed wireless and satellite technologies delivering broadband speeds of 12 megabits per second or more..."

NBN construction nears completion in South Perth

Small businesses don't see benefit in NBN: report

Telstra cites post-WWII rent control to fight ADSL price cut

Telstra has stepped up its fight to maintain wholesale ADSL rates at current levels, citing post-World War II rent controls in New York as an example of the "dire consequences" invited by "incorrect pricing" decisions.
The carrier is locked in battle with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission over proposed changes to regulated wholesale ADSL charges, that could see prices fall.
Telstra is seeking to maintain current wholesale price levels, and has used its latest submission to the competition watchdog to warn the latter off making an "inappropriate pricing decision"..."

ACCC commences first public consultation on NBN Co Special Access Undertaking
- Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Release # NR 238/12, Issued: 12th November 2012. "The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission today released the first consultation paper on the Special Access Undertaking (SAU) lodged by NBN Co on 28 September 2012.
If accepted by the ACCC, the SAU will be a key part of the framework that governs the price and other terms upon which NBN Co will supply services over its fibre, wireless and satellite networks to telecommunications companies. It will also build upon the role for the ACCC in resolving disputes between NBN Co and its customers.
'The proposed SAU appears to set out a workable overall regulatory framework for the supply of NBN Co's services for the next 30 years. Yet there are many complex issues of detail and drafting to be assessed and debated before the ACCC can determine whether it is reasonable and promotes the long term interests of end-users,' ACCC Chairman Rod Sims said.
'The consultation paper seeks the views of consumers and industry and is the first step in what will be a thorough assessment by the ACCC of the undertaking.' ..."

ACCC finalises list of NBN points of interconnect
- Only three submissions were made to the ACCC after it announced it was seeking comment on the form of the Section 151DB list of POI, by Stephanie McDonald. Computerworld, 5 November, 2012. "The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has finalised the location of the 121 points of interconnect (POI) for the National Broadband Network (NBN).
The location of the POIs have remained unchanged from the proposed list of locations the ACCC announced in August this year..."
